The EFT Externship is an intensive four-day training in Emotionally Focused Therapy, a well-researched, attachment-based approach to couple therapy developed by Dr. Sue Johnson. It provides a comprehensive overview of the model, its key interventions, and practical techniques to help therapists create lasting change in couples’ relationships.

The externship is designed for mental health professionals, including:

• Psychologists
• Social Workers
• Marriage and Family Therapists
• Counselors
• Psychiatrists

Clergy and Pastoral Counselors
Participants should have at least a master’s degree or be in the final stages of graduate-level training in a mental health field.

Participants will:

• Gain a clear understanding of the EFT model and its stages and steps.
• Learn how to identify attachment-based patterns in couple relationships.
• Observe live and recorded EFT sessions conducted by certified EFT therapists.
• Practice key EFT interventions through role-play and experiential exercises.
• Receive practical tools to improve therapeutic outcomes with couples.

The externship is facilitated by Dr. Paul Guillory, a certified EFT trainer with extensive experience in teaching and practicing EFT. Dr. Guillory specializes in culturally responsive EFT and brings a rich understanding of diversity and attachment.

The externship is the foundation of EFT training. It provides a deep dive into the theory and practice of EFT, combining didactic instruction, live demonstrations, and experiential learning. Completion of the externship is the first step toward EFT certification

Yes, all participants will receive a certificate of attendance from the Caribbean EFT Community which is an affiliate of the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT) upon completing the externship. This certificate is a prerequisite for advanced EFT trainings.

The externship provides 28 CE hours for licensed professionals. Please confirm eligibility for your specific discipline with your professional licensing board.

This externship will be conducted online via Zoom to ensure accessibility for participants across the Caribbean and beyond.

Participants will need:

• A stable internet connection
• A computer with a webcam and microphone
• A quiet, private space for engaging in experiential exercises

The registration fee for the externship is US $650 for Caribbean Residents and $750 for non-residents. Early bird rates by February 28, 2025, US $100 less group rates may be available—please contact us for details.
